Knowle celebrates Junior success

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 6th February 2014
At the recent Knowle Golf Club's junior's presentation evening in Brislington, 22 children were presented with their certificates and prizes by the club captain David Roman.

The children have been taking part in a wide variety of golfing activities throughout the year. These activities, included formal coaching from the club professional and his staff on Sunday mornings, club nights on Monday evenings (5.30–7.30pm), mini-five hole competitions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and numerous away days to play on local par-three courses.

The evening began with the presentation of the cups and salvers to all the 2013 major trophy winners, pictured. This was an inspiring event for most of the younger children since they were able to see what they might aspire to in future years. Then certificates and special prizes were presented to the younger children. The evening concluded with a junior Disco which lasted well into the evening.

Dave Owen, the junior organiser of Knowle GC, said: "This year we have had some exceptional youngsters, with six of the children being under-7, this really does bode well for the future strength of the junior section at Knowle. We are always on the look out for new talent and we never turn anyone away.

"We try to make it a friendly and safe place for the children to come to where they learn the basics of golf and generally have a good time. We must be doing something right since the children just keep coming back and we always have well supported weekend coaching sessions and Monday evening club nights."

Knowle is planning to run a number of beginner courses for children in the new year. Contact Dave Owen on 0117 986 0785 or the professional and his staff on 0117 977 9193.

St Peters were overwhelmed with the generosity of Knowle's members and have said that the Club's efforts will make a real impact to their work in 2014 and beyond.

What a fantastic evening we had on Friday. Over 140 people entertained by England legend Stuart Pearce and comedian, Paul Boardman.

Certainly one of the best evening's we've ever had at Knowle with a tremendous atmosphere, lovely food and the bar doing a roaring trade!

The icing on the cake: thanks to the generosity of those attending, over £2,000 was raised for St Peter's Hospice.

Thanks to Stuart, Paul, Mark Squires, Paul Cheesley, Trevor Harvey, the Ladies selling raffle tickets and everyone for attending and supporting the event.
