Junior Academy

Our PGA Professional Team along with Junior Organiser David Owen have been very busy recently promoting golf and our Club at local schools.

The aim is to attract as many as possible to sign up for the structured programme now in place throughout the year which provides a pathway from introduction to full junior membership.

Details of the programme are attached below and hard copies are on display at the Club. If you can help promote this in anyway please do collect some of the leaflets to distribute.

Dan Sheehan - England Schools

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 4th September 2015

Congratulations to Dan Sheehan who last week successfully represented England Schools in their International Match v Wales at Sherwood Forest GC.

Dan had won through both the Avon Schools Qualifier and the National Final to earn his place in the team.

Full results of the match are available by clicking here.

Dan continues to make rapid progress having been at 10 handicap just two years ago. Last week he reduced his handicap to scratch.

He has played in each of the Gloucestershire Mens 2nd Team matches this season and he is making excellent progress towards his ambition of representing Gloucestershire 1st team at South West Week.

Dan is pictured on the 1st tee at Sherwood Forest.

Knowle Gold Medal Results

Posted by Ryan Coles  |  Posted on 16th August 2015

The Knowle Gold Medal was first played in 1966. One of the players that day was our own Rodney Tugwell. 50 years on, it is a remarkable feat that today Rodney made it 50 in a row. It was nice that a group of friends were on hand to applaud him onto his final hole and that the Club were able to make a presentation to him to celebrate this achievement.

Tugwell won the event in 1972, shooting a 65 in his afternoon round and today it was the in form Nick Day (Henbury) who surged into the morning lead also with a 65.

With the course extremely receptive, scoring was very good with 20 players poised on 72 or better including 5 players sitting in tied 2nd on 69. Nick Day was clear favourite heading into the afternoon then, but many were on hand in case he in any way slipped up.

First to strike was Keiran Babbage from Saltford. He shot a tremendous 65 to add to his morning score of 70 for a five under par total of 135. Several good scores were to follow, but in truth, such is the level of Nick's golf at the moment, the result was scarcely in doubt and he came in with a 66 for a total of 131 and a 4 shot victory.
