Another great weekend at KGC

Captains AM/AM (Friday)

This was an excellent day played in blustery conditions with the course in fantastic condition. Thanks to the efforts of our Captain and Lady Captain, Jeff and Jean Way and the genorosity of members and guests, over £3,500 was raised for St Peters Hospice.

Mid Summer Ball (Saturday)

Again, thanks to the efforts of Jeff & Jean, the Club hosted a sold out black tie event and we've received incredibly positive feedback from those who attended regarding the food, the music and especially how good the room looked on the evening. This event was the highlight of the Club's social calendar and the extra effort has given the Club a real boost in showing how the Club can present itself at its best.

Club Championship (Sunday)

Mike Sage and the greenstaff presented the course in brilliant condition, with many players commenting that the greens were the best they've ever played on at Knowle or indeed anywhere else. The course this weekend shows what our talented staff are capable of, provided the weather plays ball. Its been a frustrating 18 months for them and I'm sure all members will agree that they can be proud of their efforts.

David Lake made an incredible start to his morning round, scoring 2 at the 10th, 2 at the 11th, 2 at the 12th, and further birdies at the 13th, 15th and 18th saw him reach the turn in a staggering 7 under par 28! His back nine proved slightly more difficult and he dropped back to post a first round of (only) 65. This gave him a four shot cushion over Louis O'Regan who shot a 1 under par 69.

If people thought Dave would cruise to victory in the afternoon, they were wrong. Louis played some great golf in his second round and was 4 under par through 14 holes before disaster struck on 15th and 16th. Dave who by his own admission was struggling was given a chance to redeem himself at the 18th as news filtered back that he needed a 4 to beat Louis by one shot. Two shots to the heart of the green and a calm two putts and the championship was his.

Club Champion: David Lake 65 74 139

Runner Up: Louis O'Regan 69 71 140

Congratulations to Dave and commiserations to Louis, both of whom played very well and kept things interesting and in the balance right until the last shot.

For all those who did less well a reminder that Dr Karl Morris is with us Tuesday Evening - we still have tickets left, come along and pay on the evening, chances are your scores are due to thinking poorly and course management - see if Dr Karl can help!

A successful weekend for Knowle GC

Lots of good news to report from the weekend:

Congratulations to Jemima Gregson who won the South West Schools Championship at Wells.

Jeff Way led his team to a 3-2 victory in the Presidents Cup at the Orchard Golf Club.

The third team captained by Matt Hinder scored an impressive away win against Farrington to continue our team's excellent start to the season.

Hannah Barwood & Shelby Smart won their Scratch Cup Match 8 & 6 on Saturday to advance Knowle Ladies to the next round.

On Firday, the Club hosted a very successful evening with Gary Mabbutt. As with all our recent social events, the event was a sell out and those in attendance reported what a great evening they'd had.
